Shopmobility
Since opening in 1992, it has been our mission to ensure every person living, visiting or working in Aberdeen has access to all the city offers regardless of age, physical disability, sensory impairment, developmental disability or their mental health and whether that disability is temporary or permanent.
Our aims and objectives are:
– to remove the social and physical barriers to equality of mobility
to create equality of access for all and to have local authorities and private businesses include everyone when planning their buildings, service provision and commercial activities
– to provide equipment and volunteer support to enable people with limited mobility to improve their access and ease of travel
– to take part actively in local authority planning and consultations to ensure that the needs of people with barriers to their mobility are respected and their requirements acted upon
– to seek out those who are socially isolated and provide them with the support they need to reintegrate with their communities, take part in social activities, participate in civic life and live independently in their own homes for as long as possible.
We provide a range of services including volunteer companions, a wheelchair accessible car and a range of mobility scooters and wheelchairs to improve peoples’ independence, increase their confidence and broaden their choices. Shopmobility Aberdeen also provides long-term loan of wheelchairs and scooters to help those who find themselves temporarily disabled due to an accident, injury or recovering from surgery and need the extra support whilst they heal.

When you get out of the lift on P1, go straight across the bridge link and our unit is right in front of you.

Equipment Shopmbility Able Deen provides a range of mobility equipment, we try to have something for everyone. Photographs are indicative of the types of equipment we have, there are many other makes and models you may be offered. Please feel free to contact us to discuss your needs.
Manual Wheelchairs
We have manual wheelchairs in an extensive range of sizes, from small childrens chairs to those suitable for larger adults. We have both self propelling wheelchairs (large rear wheels) and attendant controlled (small rear wheels)
Powered Wheelchairs
As with our manual wheelchairs, these come in a range of sizes but are suitable for adult use only. We have both left and right handed powered wheelchairs, all of which are restricted to 4 miles per hour.
The powered wheelchairs have a joystick style controller, which shows the battery power, houses the speed control, horn and the joy stick.
Powered Scooters
These come in a range of sizes and styles to suit most people. They are available in 3 and 4 wheel versions and it is our choice which suits you best.
Most of our scooters are fitted with lights, so even on dark winter days you can see and be seen by others. The controls are straight forward, show the status of the battery charge and have the controls for the lights, horn and in some cases indicators.
We have Boot Scooters which can be dismantled so that they can go into the boot of a car. This enables you to visit a number of places and attractions in the space of a day or over the period of a holiday for example.
Walkers and Rollators
These handy pieces of equipment can offer you something to lean on whilst out and about, for stability and for peace of mind. The 3 wheeled walkers come with a small bag to hold a few bits and pieces, whilst the 4 wheeled rollators have a seat for you to take a rest when you need to.
Shopmobility Wheelchair Accessible Car (SWAC)
Our wheelchair accessible vehicle is a Fiat Doblo which has been converted. This vehicle is self drive, is available for the day or for short breaks (up to 2 weeks) and comes with comprehensive insurance and breakdown cover. Please contact us for further details and terms and conditions.
Sustainable Connections Transport Team (SCoTT)
The SCoTT service provides volunteer companions ( Protection of Vulnerable Groups checked) to help people get about, do some shopping, participate in leisure and recreation activities, visit city attractions etc. For a couple of hours, one of our volunteers can accompany you while you do the things you love. This service is based around public transport, our volunteers will meet you outside your house (or another pre arranged location) and go with you on the bus to where you want to go, or if you meet in the city centre help you make the most of all it has to offer.
You must register to use this service, it is strictly by appointment only and is very popular so once registered, book well in advance.
This service is currently unavailable due to COVID 19 restrictions.
